This week is a time of preparing our hearts for Palm Sunday. Humbly bowing before the Lord as He came humbly for us, on a donkey and weeping over the city. Many can’t imagine a weeping humble king, but that’s how Jesus arrived on Palm Sunday. Meet my donkey Olive. She is a Jerusalem donkey with a cross on her back. With Palm Sunday upon us the image of the humility of Jesus is an example for me and for you. He wept over the city and rode in knowing the cross was before him. Many celebrated our Lord, waving palm branches 🌿 and singing, but I think about the coats. Some people humbly laid their coats on the ground. These coats were their prestige, identity and perhaps only possession. Laid down on the ground for a donkey to walk upon carrying a humble King. I want my heart and your heart to be ready to receive Him! Let’s represent king Jesus to others in humility. He is the only one who can help us. Mary treasured, and she pondered. For me, the words treasure and ponder mean to slow down, reflect, remember and preserve. Mary did just that with the good news that she had delivered so humbly in a manger. As she held baby Jesus, she reflected on who He would be to the world, and she preserved all that in her heart and soul. Mary was sentimental, and she was one to think deeply. So much of the Christmas season can be hectic and busy. In fact, so much of life can be hectic and busy. But Mary reflected on what mattered most, such as God and her family. She was aware of God’s good, perfect and pleasing will, and she treasured His gifts in her heart. It’s easy for us to get wrapped up in the tangible things of Christmas like the presents, the food and the activities, but a Christmas heart is a heart that cherishes Jesus. Things flee quickly but treasures last a lifetime. This weekend we had the Jackson Family farm at @thechurchnextdoor so the kids could experience Nativity Animals from the Bible right before their eyes 🥹 Saturday before church we had to give them baths, brush them, put their Christmas bows on and get over to church before the 5 o’clock service 😂 ‘Tis the season! Little is much if God is in it! As a pastors wife I love my tiny electrical closet office at the church. Here is where the secret, quieter “one on ones” happen- where miracles begin. I see God move in the hearts of women. It’s on the phone through txt as we encourage one another, it’s at the altar praying with oil for healing and the reports later shared. It’s one on one in the studio as we share stories of the goodness of God, His faithfulness and power over our past. His forgiveness and love flowing through the testimony to bring hope to another. If the place you are called to serve seems so small and little. Know it is GREAT if God is in it! He will not forsake His own. Labor not for wealth or fame. There is a crown 👑 in heaven - when we go in Jesus name 2 Timothy 4:8 And now the prize awaits me—the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give me on the day of his return. You are calling a people for Yourself from every nation, tribe, language, and race, and we are honored to be included. Lord, we pause today to pray for the peace of Jerusalem. We pray for the Israelis as they're making decisions on how to respond to the cowardly attack that was launched against them. May they have wisdom from You. A few weeks ago, I went to visit some family in Colorado and I am always so in awe of God’s creation every time I see the mountains. In this Psalm chapter, God is called “the great King above all gods” and staring into this landscape it was so evident to me today. So why do we sometimes look in the mirror and think we are any less beautiful as a a creation of God? We talked about the future, cried, dreamed and enjoyed one another. I learned how to sit in His presence and read His word. Yesterday, the corn field behind my house was a secret place of prayer. God longs to fellowship with us. He knows every hair on your head, He and He bottles your tears. I find these verses so comforting, because suffering, tragedy, and hardship on this side of heaven are not unique to just our time in history. Suffering is inevitable, but we have a greater hope despite our greatest afflictions. We have to start looking at the Word as our greatest resource, our greatest weapon, and our greatest gift from God. One of my favorite passages from Paul says, “The Word of God is living and active, sharper than any twho edged sword, piercing until it divides the soul from spirit, joints from marrow; it is able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart.” All too often we view our obstacles as being “uniquely challenging,” but God has given us so much detail and instruction to deal with modern day challenges. Maybe you’re struggling to put food on the table for your family? We can learn so much from the widow from Zarephath who fed Elijah in 1 Kings 17. Maybe you have been struggling to find a secure relationship and need that loving instruction from Jesus? We can learn so much from The Woman at the well in in John 4:1-42 Maybe you’re facing a health crisis and you just need the comfort of the Lord? We can learn so much from the woman who had the bleeding sickness in Luke 8:43-48. I still believe in modern day miracles. I still believe His word is applicable today. No matter what challenges you face, they aren’t ones that the Lord has not already or cannot already overcome. Sometimes the only way through some of our greatest tests, trials, and hardships is to just say hallelujah not in spite but despite our situation. Nehemiah 8:10 says, “the joy of the Lord is my strength.” The question many have is, “How do I get to the joy part?” Consistency. Consistency is key to experiencing the Lord’s joy that strengthens us. In the same way people in our lives depend on consistency from us, like our kids, our friends, and our family, we also have to be consistent for the Lord. It is through a consistent prayer life, worship routine, Bible study, and more that we excercise our “faith muscle.” When muscles are pushed what happens? They’re sore for a few days and then, utimately, it makes you stronger over time. The same goes for consistency with the Lord.
